According to reports on ESPN, Chelsea are among several European clubs monitoring Montreal Impact winger Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the 18-year-old wide-man has made a big impression in his first MLS season and the Blues have been alerted to his potential by former striker Didier Drogba, according to ESPN, as he worked with the youngster during his spell with the Canadian outfit.
However, the Premier League holders would face competition to sign the Ivory Coast-born player as the likes of Lille and Red Bull Salzburg are also interested, according to ESPN.
How good has Tabla been in the MLS this season?
Considering his age he has certainly made a big impression.
The 18-year-old has scored two goals and provided one assist in 15 appearances, while he also netted once in three outings in the Canadian Championship.
Even though he has been called up to the Canada senior squad he is yet to represent them, and could yet change his allegiance to the country of his birth, according to ESPN.
The fact that he has impressed Drogba certainly says something about the potential the winger – who can play on either flank – has if the Chelsea legend believes he could make an impact at Stamford Bridge in the future.
Would he be a good signing for Chelsea?
If he is as good as Drogba says he is then the Blues shouldn’t hesitate in bringing him to west London, as the former Ivory Coast international certainly knows what he’s talking about when it comes to football.
Tabla’s pace and dribbling ability instantly make him a huge threat to opposition defenders and at 18 years of age he would certainly be seen as one for the future.
Chelsea have become renowned for loaning their young players out to get regular playing time and it would likely be a similar situation for Tabla if he joined.
