Pakistan currently lead England by 281 runs. West Indies chased down a target of 342 set by the hosts in 1984 and England chased down 282 against New Zealand in 2004. Teams chasing have lost 24 of the 42 Tests when targets of 282 or more have been set at this venue.122 Runs scored by Asad Shafiq in this Test – the third highest by any Pakistan batsman batting at No. 6 or lower in a Test in England. Only Asif Iqbal’s 172 runs at the Oval in 1967 and Moin Khan’s 135 runs in Leeds in 1996 are higher than Shafiq’s. Shafiq fell just one run short of getting his second fifty in this Test and becoming the first overseas batsman since Sachin Tendulkar at Old Trafford in 1990 to get two fifty-plus scores batting at No. 6 in a Test in England.
