Chelsea are set for a huge spending spree this summer and have Celtic striker Moussa Dembele at the top of their shopping list, with Alvaro Morata and Virgil Van Dijk also on their short-list, The Daily Mirror reports.
What’s the word?
Roman Abramovich has been impressed with Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea looking set to life the Premier League title, and the Russian billionaire will hand the Italian boss £100m to splash this summer.
The Premier League leaders did not recruit any new faces in January but were made aware of Celtic’s demands for former Fulham striker Moussa Dembele, with the Scottish giants wanting at least £40m to secure a deal.
Chelsea have made the French youth international their prime summer target but are not stopping there, as they’re targeting Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata as another attacking option and want Southampton ace Virgil Van Dijk to bolster their defence.
What changes will be made?
Antonio Conte’s incoming deals this summer will inevitably mean players will depart and Chelsea have the room to make such moves, with Diego Costa’s long-term future in doubt and the Spaniard potentially moving on this summer.
Bringing in both Dembele and Morata would raise questions on the club’s plans for Michy Batshuayi though, who has failed to earn regular opportunities at Stamford Bridge following his £33m move from Marseille.
In defence, 36-year-old John Terry is likely to wave goodbye to the club he’s spent his entire career with, though it’s unsure whether he will retire, whilst 31-year-old Gary Cahill could also find himself surplus to requirements.
