Leeds United continue to be linked with an exciting young winger, as they look to rectify their summer mistake with Cody Gakpo…
What’s the latest?
That’s according to Dean Jones, who has offered a fresh update after Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Whites’ continued interest two months ago. The Italian expects the Netherlands international to cost a fee of around €35m (£30m).
The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “They want to avoid that disappointment of suffering on someone like Gakpo and missing out on them and then seeing them linked with every big club in Europe, basically, the same thing will happen with Noa Lang.
“He’s got massive potential and is already doing really well, so I would expect them to push on with that soon.”
Given the recent rumours linking Jack Harrison with a move away from Elland Road, this proposed transfer would mark a huge upgrade on the English winger should it materialise.
Harrison upgrade
Although he has been a loyal and impressive servant to the Whites across numerous loan spells, the 26-year-old has hardly set the world alight to justify demanding a move away.
His exploits last season were impressive and integral to their Premier League survival as he scored eight times, including the final-day winner at Brentford. However, he has disappointed so far this term.
The 26-year-old has not contributed to a goal in his last ten top-flight games, outlining that his output is certainly replaceable – especially with the likes of Lang, who too could be seen as ‘struggling’ somewhat this season.
Whilst seven goal contributions so far in 2022/23 is not a bad return, it is far from the astronomical standards that he set when he scored nine goals and set up 15 last term.
It was these displays which led Belgian journalist Peter Vandenbempt to label him a “phenomenon”, as Lang built upon his haul of 17 goals and 11 assists from the 2020/21 season.
A consistently outstanding creator and a lethal goal scorer, the Dutchman will have more than earned his big-money move from the Belgian league.
Should Jesse Marsch become resigned to losing Harrison, the Leeds boss can rest assured that he has a readymade upgrade in the 23-year-old, who already boasts top-level experience far beyond most of the current Whites squad.
Marsch will just be wary about repeating the failures of the summer, when the Yorkshire club let Lang’s compatriot Gakpo slip through their fingers.
