According to BBC Sport, Southampton are expected to reach a deal with Mark Hughes to make him the club’s new manager by the end of Wednesday, with talks reported to be already underway.
But our poll suggests that constitutes bad news for the majority of the club’s supporters.
Saints are without a manager after sacking Mauricio Pellegrino on Monday night, following a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday that has left the club just one point above the drop zone – making relegation a distinct possibility in light of the south coast outfit’s tough run of fixtures between now and the end of the season.
It appears the Welshman is the club’s preferred candidate to save their season, but when we asked Southampton supporters earlier this week whether they were in support of the potential appointment, 75% of those who took part in our poll voted against hiring Hughes.
