The fast bowler Shaun Tait took the first public stepsfrom his self-imposed break due to exhaustion when hejoined the Australian Test squad at their trainingcamp in Brisbane. Tait stepped down in January due tothe physical and mental strains caused by his recoveryfrom injury and his push to hold a place in the Testside. He will spend two days with the squad for fitnesstests after having a contract meeting with JamesSutherland, the chief executive of Cricket Australia, andAndrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors. TimNielsen, the coach, felt the camp was a goodopportunity for Tait to re-integrate into the squadafter his long absence. After playing his third Test in Perth, Tait, who hadstruggled with a long-term elbow problem, took anindefinite break to recover. He retained his nationalcontract when the list was announced in April, but wasnot considered for either parts of the West Indiestour. It is likely he will return to action with SouthAustralia at the start of next season.
