Much has been made about the defensive frailty currently plaguing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, something that has proved rather thematic throughout his tenure at Anfield.
The Reds may well be continuing the title challenge they put together earlier on this season if it were for a stronger backline, made all the more glaring by Mamadou Sakho’s rather imperious form on loan at Crystal Palace.
While not the most elegant of defenders to have ever graced Merseyside, the Frenchman was a big part of Liverpool’s Europa League run last season and has a good relationship with the club’s fans, even if his one with Klopp deteriorated over the course of the summer.
So, after many months without first-team football, his outings for Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace raise an interesting topic of debate with this summer in mind.
What exactly should Liverpool do with Sakho? Prior to his departure, the club were reportedly looking for around £20m for the former PSG man.
Still, none of their current central defenders look overly convincing right now and the Frenchman himself has suggested he’d be happy to return to the club after his loan in south London ends.
